When we think of Christmas, we think of twinkling lights, the warmth of mulled wine, Santa’s sleigh bells and… John Lewis. This year, Britain’s beloved retailer celebrated their 100th birthday. To celebrate a century of magic, John Lewis chose Prince George’s Playing Fields in Merton as the backdrop for its centenary advert, blending local charm with the retailer’s signature storytelling.
The advert, depicts a tableau of iconic fashions, beauty and homeware from decades past on the expansive green fields, grounding the project in an authentic, everyday setting whilst celebrating the values of community and togetherness that have defined the brand for generations. The Merton Film Office, managed by Film Office, welcomed the production, and was thrilled that the borough got to play a starring role in celebrating a beautiful reminder of how traditions and shared spaces connect people across time.
Olwyn Hinds, the film officer on the job said, “Working on the John Lewis centenary advert at Prince George’s Playing Fields was a proud moment for us. It wasn’t just about logistics—it was about helping create something that celebrates tradition and community. Seeing a brand like John Lewis choose Merton for such an iconic campaign felt like recognition for the borough and the work we do behind the scenes. The exposure of our fantastic locations and being part of a project that will resonate with so many people this Christmas was truly rewarding.”
